AKANDE MAKINDE ISAAC - 04

AKANDE  MAKINDE  ISAAC

Focus, determination and patience were mere words in the dictionary until i witnessed them come to life in the person of this great scholar and library addict. Few people ever bother to set goals, fewer even bother to chase their goals, while an even smaller handful ever get to achieve these goals, Isaac or Ranke as i named him after the great German historian Leopold von Ranke, surely ranks among the last category of these set of individuals.

Never have i seen someone so unabashed by the distractions around him. A perfect gentleman, both in speech and action, he was the intellectual hub of the class, and no matter how much you tried to discard his relevance, an academic problem of sorts would always have your compass pointing back to him. Also noteworthy is his ability to keep abreast with latest trends and information, especially when it concerns the academics, and by extension, every other productive venture.

If Humans were to be Animals, Isaac would not be a pack animal, no, his outstanding intelligence an unwavering quest for success would never afford him the patience needed to cope with mediocrity and lack luster attitudes most people exhibit, and indeed the distractions friendship may pose.
Therefore, in his mission to to attain success, he eschewed the concept of 'serious friendship' preferring to be largely freelance, undistracted and un-detracted from his big dreams.

However, In spite of his strong affinity to studying, unlike most other scholars, Remarkable however was the enthusiasm and fervour he exhibited towards social activities and events, he tended to love parties (only the necessary ones), he never missed any of our excursions, attended his own fair share of seminars and shows in school, however all these were done without the slightest discomfort to his academic work. Whenever there was a clash of interest between his academics and anything else, the former usually took precedence.

On a more personal basis however, our relationship has always been cordial, although sometimes fluctuating from that of contempt to complements, condemnation to commendation and awe. Sadly, i came to realize that my rather distracted mind could never be friends with his focus and determination, therefore i had to quit tying to yoke both personae together under the excuse of friendship.

A prolific writer, a Straight A's student, a poet, a distinguished scholar and lover, i believe that in more ways than one, he has influenced my life greatly and positively, passively influencing me towards gunning for academic success and also working fervently towards my goals.

  1. It is crystal clear that ranke ranks among d best in the class. He refused to be distracted, disturbed n discouraged all thru d years in school. As people do say 'no place like home' for Isaac 'there is no place like Library'.
