TITLE: TWELFTH JUNE TWO-THOUSAND AND TWELVE

We all woke up to a somewhat usual morning, which like all others bore the promise of graduating into a sunny day. A couple of household chores were performed, including the all-important ritual at the kitchen performed amidst pots and spoons which either needed emptying or filling up. All these performed with rapt attention to news media as regards information ascertaining the validity of a rumoured public holiday in honour of a national hero who died for the cause of democracy, and whom recently a political big-wing has clamored to be crowned president posthumously (whatever he must have meant by that).

A couple of minutes preceded hours and those early hours of the day saw the emergence of a gloomy atmosphere which usually preceded rain. About 9pm or thereabout the heavens opened and generous showers of blessing, nay rain poured out, some folks would dis-agree with my description, favouring the ‘cat and dog’ phrase instead, but that should be no bone of contention because that was more like it. As time went by, the rain kept a decreasing ascent and about two hours later calm, normalcy and brightness returned, even as the rain ceased.

A couple outdoor activities were barely performed before power was restored and like chicks responding to the calls of the mother hen, we all ran to connect any rechargeable electronic device we could lay our hands on to power, our phones inclusive. Ceasing the opportunity I read up some materials online on my computer, then shutdown, but not before evaluating the traffic at my blog, ascertaining if the population of visitors increased or decreased. I barely do shutdown my system until the battery is fully drained, so do not even conceptualise that the ever efficient power supply was still up, nay it lasted barely an hour, and that is about how long it takes my slow internet connection to open a web page.

Like a typical student would, in the absence of electricity and meager household chores already exhausted, I set out to read, since it was about the only productive venture considering the circumstances. Reading is boring, and soon enough I abandoned the book, but not before reading up about five pages. Power supply was restored and I set straight for a quick fix at the kitchen. After all the ceremonious processes that characterize cooking lunch for the whole family, halfway into the cooking, power was cut-off. Sometimes I actually do think they play some sort of games with the power supply switches at the power holding office. I abandoned cooking and began the pinging process, in between chatting and the music reeling out of the earphone, I slept
off, or suffice to say, I had my siesta, an un-intended one though.

I woke up by 4pm to another bout of heavy rain. Barely ten minutes past the hour of four and our bulbs and electronic appliances came on in response to the restoration of power. I headed straight for the kitchen, resumed my cooking preparations and set the pot on the cooker for good. Next I Plugged in my computer.

Now here I am typing away on Microsoft word, barring my mind with words and for the first time in my barely twenty years of existence, giving a vivid account of my day’s activities and best of all, realizing that I just got the perfect write-up to submit for a writing competition I had racked my brain for days to find a perfect story for.
Do not even think I did not bathe, because amidst all these activities, I still pulled off a bath and an early breakfast.

You can as well guess I would spend the rest of the day editing and fine-tuning this story before mailing it. Now wait a minute, is that not my food raising hell about how I abandoned it to burn for some selfish story? Yes I guess, and sooner or later the neighbours would start enquiring for the source of that burning aroma and considering the air crash of last week, any burning smell could really worth raising more than an eyebrow over.
