stop measuring your life based on things you see on social media

Yesterday I found myself attending a meeting somewhere around Marina, so i quickly adjusted my shirt, practiced my trademark smile and selfie pose, then took a couple of selfies at the reception before the meeting proper.

Next phase, was to determine which social media platform i had to post the best version of the selfie on, this was the point were some factors came into play. First it was a relatively new shirt, i looked good in it and i hadn't posted any previous pictures of it on social media, so baam! i decided it was the perfect pic for the gram (Instagram).

Instagram filters are there to make your pictures look better, so i just tried a few and settled for Juno. Next i thought of the location, OK wow, i was on the Island, a highbrow business district which when combined with my fine blue shirt will make a good social media impression, so i put on my location indicator and viola, a list of posh locations just popped up. after two minutes of scrolling up and down, i settled for 'Chevron, Lekki'.
That's how i ended up having my meeting somewhere else while my Followers on Instagram are made to believe that i was some big shot in Chevron.

This is what social media really is for, to live our alter egos, to exist in realms unimaginable in real life and to always stay on fleek like gods and goddesses, while our reality rots away behind the constant facade of the respect we have earned by sharing a false version of whom we are.
a simple word for those who live their real life based on opinions formed by seeing pictures like mine. Social media for the most part is a fluke and make believe, don't base your life on another person's fantasy while your reality rots from abandonment and neglect. spend more time working on who you really are. You can turn your fantasy into reality by focusing on what matters and realising that social media is all for the show
