IMPORTANT FACTS our President elect should not forget - by Gbadamosi Bidemi

Muhammadu Buhari
It is no longer news that fate has decided to smile on erstwhile military dictator, Muhammadu Buhari on his fourth successive quest for political supremacy. Even Darasimi, a boisterous 3-year old in my vicinity keeps chanting "Sai Buhari" intermittently as the Daura born austere president - elect is set to assume the mantle of leadership come May 29.  The unprecedented outcome of the presidential polls is borne out of the fact that this is the very first time a dogged
opposition (the All Progressive Congress) will wrestle power away from the incumbent party. This further attest to the fact that the electorate should not be marginalised as they dictate the tune with their statutory franchise.

It is also noteworthy that the APC also registered outstanding victories in 19 of the 28 states in the just concluded gubernatorial polls. Notable amongst the subsequent development is the prospective alliance of Lagos with the centre. This is a change the governor elect, Akinwunmi Ambode will be anticipating with relish and glee. Given its heterogenous, bedlam and cosmopolitan nature, Lagos is home to some 17.5 million people. Encomiums should be showered on outgoing governor Babatunde Fashola for his meritorious, indefatigable and assiduous endeavours towards transforming Lagos. He had pitched his tent with scoring remarkable points and history will be forever be kind to him.

Moreover, the transformation of Lagos is envisaged to experience a new tide owing to the imminent coalescence with the centre. With Buhari and Ambode piloting the affairs of the nation and state respectively, I envision the Metropolis to  metamorphose  into an ultra-mega city. I envision the burgeoning of commercial activities.  I foresee more appreciable welfare packages tailored-out for the benefit of the average Nigerian. I envisage the issue of endemic employment bedeviling the teeming working class reduced to its barest minimum. I forsee people benefitting immensely from skill acquisition and artisanship. With Buhari, Ambode and other APC stalwarts like the national leader, Tinubu being bound by a mantra (change), similar maxims and objectives, I envisage the glitches of infrastructural dearth and deficits in some renowned obscure areas mitigated in the near future. The bedlam metropolis is set to live up to its reputation as the most commercialized epicentre in Africa's most populous nation.

Lagos under the tutelage of Ambode and under the auspices of Buhari, Tinubu et al is set to hit unparalleled heights. The synergy amongst these public figures is set to undergo a stern test.  Aside all the afore-stated, Buhari should be circumspect and avoid marginalizing any state or geo-political zone. He should avoid frolicking with cynics, bigots, fraudsters and sycophants that could truncate and scuttle the implementation of his manifesto. He should rather identify himself with apt and competent technocrats that would help move the country forward in all sectors. His hard stance against impunity, graft, ethnic segregation and divisiveness should be upheld. He should bear in mind that his every move and endeavour throughout his first term in office can make or mar his reputation as he may aspire to extend his stay at Aso Rock come 2019.
